Photo of the Day

26 Jul

I’ve been lazy with the photo of the day for the past week, too busy having fun in NYC to worry about it.

Last night we went to the meatpacking district for some beers and to check out the old railroad that has been turned into a park in the area. The tracks were lifted a couple of stories above the city to free up room at street level in 1930, but no trains have used it since 1980. In 1999, the railroad was almost demolished, and was only saved by the public pressure to preserve the important historical infrastructure.

In true NYC style, they’ve now turned it into a park, invited local artists to create public art for it, and added some markets and a bar. Stunning. You get a great view of the Hudson and the skyline at night is spectacular. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my good camera on me, but this iphone photo gives you an idea of what it looks like.
